About the villa - practicalities.
There are some practicalities I want to share with you first to ensure it is suitable for you and your friends.
GEOGRAPHY & MOBILITY Kalkan is hilly and the villa, whilst having the advantage of fantastic views, is at the top of a very steep road.
Taxis drive up and around a road to get to the top (as opposed to up Sedir Sokak itself) so that you will just have to negotiate 20 yards walking downhill to Bellapais gate. Even so, if you are having any mobility issues you will struggle.
If you have hired a car there is a space at the top of the road for you to park.
ROOM SET-UP Villa Bellapais has been set up with three good sized double bedrooms with super comfortable double beds. It is not geared towards young children. A family with two teenagers who want their own room will be very happy though. But please note there are no single beds for the main bedrooms, and no toddler or baby amenities. This is intentional and not something I currently wish to change.
WI-FI The wi-fi is adequate. You can surf the net, do a zoom, watch Netflix, use WhatsApp. All the main things will be fine. But we are surrounded by the Atlas mountains and if you want to watch live sport, it can be a frustrating experience with a bit too much buffering. And of course that buffering occurs mostly on match points and for penalty takes....I would suggest that if it is an important event to you, you head to town to one of the bars broadcasting sporting events of which there are a fair few.
CURRENCY As of 2025, I advise that you change your money in Turkiye and not in the UK. It is a considerably better rate once in Turkiye. I would also suggest you take UK sterling if you are British, but not Scottish notes. (don't shoot the messenger on this - most Turks are not familiar with Scottish currency).
Euros and US/AUS dollars are fine but it is the British pound that is the most recognised currency in Kalkan with boat trips and some restaurants accepting and preferring Sterling. A couple even offer a discount if you pay with sterling. This may change but that is the case as of 2025. This is mainly because the Turkish Lira value has fluctuated considerably recently and provides little stability for their income.
MOBILE WI-FI For mobile wi-fi, if you are tech minded, it is worth purchasing an eSim if you wish to stay connected wherever you are. That said many get by using wi-fi from place to place.
YUCEL (pronounced Yudgel) The general running of the villa is handled by Yucel and his wife Makbule and this includes you registering as guests as is the law in Turkey. They will handle this on my behalf as well as ensuring your stay is comfortable and any issues you encounter are dealt with swiftly. Most mornings Yucel will check the pool is clean and treated and unless you are a very early riser, it will be before you are up. If you wish for privacy first thing in the morning, you would just let him know and he will skip pool cleaning and return later or indeed not at all.
Things in a small town that has expanded very fast do go wrong as the infrastructure gets tested to its limits, notably electricity or water cuts. ( 20 years ago Kalkan was a sparsely populated fishing village.)
These power cuts and water issues occur fairly rare but can happen.
If it happens during the holiday Season (May-September) it is generally corrected within the day and on for the evening.
For a loss of water services, we have a spare water tank for emergencies with about enough water to last a few days.
This website is an introduction to the villa. Should you decide to come, at booking you will be provided with additional useful information like recommendations, wi fi password, emergency numbers and so on.
In order to set this up as a business I have obtained a license or to be specific a Touristic Rental Residence Permit.
The License Number is 07-9645

Experience Luxury Dining
Whilst Gerry and Mary-Anne are vying for the title of King or Queen of the BBQ (and rightly so), Kalkan is famed for it's restaurants.
In fact Kalkan has more restaurants per square mile than any other destination on the whole of the Turkish coast.
It is said that the very best chefs travel from the city for the 'season'.
The roof top restaurants are stunning and priced accordingly for the most part.
But there are restaurants and cafes for every budget as well as some decent supermarkets and the Thursday market down in the town.
Yucel will help you with any of your questions whilst you are there (as will I before you get there, should you ask.)
Everyone has an opinion as to where is best but one thing is certain, you can visit year on year and never get around to visiting them all!
